VISITS WERE HELD WITHIN THE FIFTH IREMCON

Mr. Türkay Özgür, Chairman of the Board of IREMCON, Prof. Dr. Caner Zanbak Chairman of the Advisory Board of IREMCON and Mr. Namık Sarıgöl, IREMCON Advisory Board Member and EKO Fairs Manager made pre-meeting visits in early March, 2023 for the 5th IREMCON International Environmental Conference, which will be held with the main theme of "Combating Global Climate Change and Strengthening International Cooperation in Waste Management" at TÜYAP Fair and Congress Center during April 27-28, 2023, in İstanbul.

On a brief evaluation about the visits, Mr. Türkay Özgür, Chairman of the Board of IREMCON, stated that the interest in the 5th IREMCON is quite high this year, as in the past, and said that a large number of participants from the Balkan region are expected.

IREMCON Advisory Board Chairman Prof. Dr. Caner Zanbak also stated that he is again pleased to take part in the 5th IREMCON, and that more original concepts on the main theme will be tabled this year.

On a specific note, Dr. Zanbak said, “On March 6, 2023, ALCOMET AD company, which was established in Shumen in Bulgaria, was visited. Today, ALCOMET AD is the second largest Turkish investment in Bulgaria. Currently, ALCOMET AD is one of the few industrial facilities in the European Union with its over 300 thousand square meter enclosed area, melting, profile extrusion and aluminum foil production. The facility processes aluminum metal and is currently planning to commission waste aluminum recovery units. The facility, in compliance with all quality, environmental and occupational safety standards, is an example of a very successful and large-capacity industrial facility for Green Economy applications, with energy efficiency, greenhouse gas reduction activities and waste recycling units in line with the EU Green Deal.

On March 6, 2023, Bulgaria's Kardjali (Kırcali) city municipality office was visited and the mayor was invited to speak at the opening session of the 5th IREMCON. We are aware of the earlier works of the Municipality of Kardjali with the Istanbul-İSTAÇ Waste Management Company on management of municipal waste.

On March 7, 2023, with the kind referral of an ALCOMET AD Board member, we attended the Turkish-Bulgarian Businessmen meeting held in Sofia by the Turkish Iron and Steel Exporters' Association. We gave information about the 5th İREMCON to Sofia Commercial Counselors of the Ministry of Commerce and some Bulgarian businessmen. On the same day, we met with the Director of Bulgarian SME Support Agency in Sofia and our proposals for their participation and making a presentation at the 5th IREMCON were accepted. We expect many industrialists from Bulgaria to participate in the 5th IREMCON following upon its announcement by the Bulgarian SME Support Agency”, Dr. Zanbak said.
